Matt Kliethermes, Ph.D.
Dr. Kliethermes received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. He attended graduate school in clinical psychology at Saint Louis University and received his doctoral degree in July 2003. Dr. Kliethermes’ training experiences in the area of childhood trauma have included the assessment and treatment of sexually abused children at the Children’s Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis (CASGSL) as a graduate student and a yearlong internship rotation providing psychological services to survivors of child maltreatment and trauma at La Rabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. For three years, Dr. Kliethermes provided trauma-focused services at the Greater St. Louis Child Traumatic Stress Program, a collaborative effort between CASGSL and the Center for Trauma Recovery and a member program of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). His duties included providing assessment and treatment to traumatized children, supervising student clinicians, conducting professional trainings, developing trauma-focused research projects, and involvement in NCTSN work groups. Dr. Kliethermes continues to provide direct clinical services to children at CASGSL, but also serves as the agency’s manager of clinical services and the program director for the Integrated Treatment of Complex Trauma (ITCT) program. Dr. Kliethermes has special professional interest in the areas of complex trauma, Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), trauma and children with developmental disabilities, and childhood traumatic grief.
